In an effort to improve planning and coordination, and thus minimize increasingly common scheduling and boat launch facility use conflicts between various groups sponsoring fishing tournaments on Michigan inland lakes, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has launched an on-line program entitled Michigan Fishing Tournaments Information System. The system was initiated to assist tournament organizers and the fishing community to schedule a tournament or view scheduled tournaments for a particular lake, boat launch ramp or date. In addition, the new system will allow fishing tournament organizers to report their catch data which will ultimately assist MDNR Fisheries Division personnel in managing Michigan’s increasingly important inland fishery.
